Wreck Diving: Connecting the Past to the Present

Here's a photo I took of my dive buddy, Josh Smith, on the wreck of the Capilano - sunken off of the coast of Vancouver Island, Canada. A group of close friends and I had a fantastic time diving three stunning wrecks in the emerald waters of British Columbia during this particular excursion. After the trip, John Rawlings and I collaborated on a story about those shipwrecks. He primarily focused on the history of each wreck and I provided a narrative of our dives and the present-day condition of the wrecks, doing our best to connect the past with the present. For the most part ship wrecks are very much like time capsules. Showing the state of technology and social amenities from the era in which they sank. Going beyond that, the wrecks stir a sense of adventure and wonderment. What was the cargo? What were the thoughts and life’s like aboard the craft. What caused the ship to go down? Indeed pretty neat.

OFG, I think it's a generational thing. My brother printed out this article for my Dad (no, he doesn't surf the web) and 15 minutes later my Dad comes back and asks my brother to "blow up" the photo of the woman swimming with the whales.

When I asked Dad whether or not he liked my story (after all, it took quite a bit of effort to produce) all he talked about was the woman swimming naked in the Arctic. My response: Dad there are plenty of naked women on the internet, maybe you should start using it!
